A Court in England has approved a compensation award for a teenage girl of nearly 8 million pounds for a medical negligence claim after being left brain-damaged by failings in her care shortly after she was born.

The girl was born by Caesarean section due to concerns about her growth in the womb.  Shortly after she was born, she was admitted to Worcestershire Royal Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.  However, her health worsened after symptoms caused by a bowel obstruction were not diagnosed.

The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust stated that they “accepted liability for shortcomings in the care and treatment shortly after birth and expresses its profound apologies to the individual and their family.”
