The parents of an eight-year-old girl, who was left profoundly disabled after being starved of oxygen at birth, have reached a settlement with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust.
The child was born in Antrim Area Hospital in 2007 and suffered hypoxia due to a delay in her delivery. This resulted in numerous health issues including severe cerebral palsy and complex epilepsy.
Her parents brought a medical negligence claim against the trust. A five day trial was scheduled at the High Court earlier this month but the trust admitted full liability a week before the hearing date. They agreed to pay a figure of £5.3 million to cover damages and costs of past and future health care.
