The National Consumer Agency in Ireland have been looking at fees being charged by Solicitors. We too have been looking at fees being charged by Solicitors.
Our vision is to offer innovative solutions on the issue of Solicitors’ fees in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in order to benefit major Irish Insurers and ultimately their customers. Everyone wants a system that works well and is efficient and fair to everyone. There is a highly competitive market place in the Republic of Ireland with over two thousand two hundred firms competing for business. As part of our vision for our firm we plan to offer two new services to Insurer clients in January, 2014.
1. Defence litigation legal services in the Republic of Ireland from our principal place of business at 23 Bedford Street, Belfast in Northern Ireland.
2. Defence litigation legal services in the Republic of Ireland from our new offices on 27 Baggot Street, Dublin.
There is a huge downward pressure on Solicitors’ fees at the moment. We all know that the process for costs on defence insurance work is outdated in the Republic of Ireland. We plan to offer defence litigation services to Insurers for claims originating in the Republic of Ireland at substantially reduced fees for Dublin High Court and for the High Court sitting in provincial venues such as Dundalk and Sligo during Easter and Michaelmas Terms in 2014.
All claims will be handled by Solicitors who have qualified in the Republic of Ireland and who are
licensed and insured to provide legal services in the Republic of Ireland. It is important that Insurers can take advantage of the variation in price for legal services to benefit their customers. There are benefits to shopping around and taking advantage of competition.
Naturally fees are not the only factor to be taken into consideration when an Insurer chooses their panel of Solicitors for claims originating in the Republic of Ireland but it is certainly part of the process. Fees are only one element of choice for selecting panel Solicitors. We can also offer a top quality service. Therefore we just don’t compete on price we also compete on the quality of service being offered. We are now willing to agree a standardised list of fees which will be of benefit to Irish Insurers and their customers. We will provide transparency on the fees issues by sitting down and agreeing criteria for setting fees for contentious and non contentious cases at considerable reductions. This is not a race to the bottom.
Our vision is to provide a top class claims solution by reducing costs and cycle times. Each one of our Solicitors has a proven track record in range of specialisms. We have embarked on a major capital investment in our IT system which is also scheduled to take place by the year end. We know that our IT system puts us on a par with the top UK firms as we constantly react to the market. We are a flexible and forward looking firm. We have grown apace with the rapidly expanding Northern Irish economy and our wide range of expertise is being developed to provide innovative solutions for the challenges of the future. Fee cutting will not lead to reduced standards in our practice.
