    Robert was educated at Queen’s University Belfast and after graduating, he completed his apprenticeship at L’Estrange and Brett.

    Robert took the decision to set up his own practice and founded Robert G Sinclair & Co in 1983. Robert has acted for leading corporate and commercial clients and is well known in this field of work. He has acted in many high profile cases in these areas including tax cases, VAT cases, fraud cases and restructuring of major companies. Robert has acted for many major banks who have set up in Northern Ireland.  He has drafted much of the security documentation used by major lenders and continues to review these. At present Robert is involved in re-drafting security documentation for major lender clients to comply with Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) requirements specifically related to Northern Ireland.

    Robert has been involved in advising companies and lenders involved in administrations, receiverships and liquidations and schemes of arrangement. Robert holds practising certificates in Northern Ireland, England & Wales and the Republic of Ireland and carries out transactions in all jurisdictions. Day to day, Robert’s primary role is in relation to the strategy of the firm and cementing relationships with key existing clients and developing relationships with new clients. Further, Robert’s role involves cultivating and maintaining relationships with English and Irish solicitors and accountants who lead their fields within areas in which our firm operates.

    In the office, Robert runs a specialist caseload involving banking, insurance and property related matters at all levels.

    Robert has been appointed to the advisory board of several leading companies by the government.  He has also been appointed by the Northern Ireland Department of Education as a governor of Our Lady of St Patrick’s Grammar School, Knock. He is a trustee of several leading Northern Ireland Companies as well as a non-executive Director.

    Robert is well known in national hunt horse racing circles. He has owned a number of Cheltenham festival winners and winners of national hunt races in Ireland.  He is a keen runner having completed events such as the New York Marathon and is a member of several golf clubs including the K-Club, Helen’s Bay where he has been Captain, Clandeboye, Aloha (Marbella) and Dunham Forest (Cheshire). As Managing Partner in the firm for over 20 years he oversees each specialist department.

    With his vast commercial and legal experience and as a Queen’s Law Graduate, Robert was delighted to be appointed to the Queen’s University Foundation Board where he helps advance the strategic goals and objectives of the University. He was actively involved in the second fund raising campaign for the University and has been appointed to the committee of Health Sciences as led by Professor Paddy Johnston (Professor Johnston is now vice-chancellor of Queens University). Professor Johnston spearheaded the centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology which was supported by the Queen’s Foundation Board.
    Robert is also a member of the Marie Curie Development Board for Northern Ireland which, among other duties works to promote the development of the Marie Curie Hospice in Belfast. Robert has run charity events for cancer research and raised substantial sums for charity.

    Kathy was educated at Queen’s University Belfast and Manchester University. In addition to this Kathy has lectured at University of Ulster for 34 years.  Most recently she was lecturing in Equity and Trusts and Mediation.

    Kathy has built a wealth of experience and expertise in banking litigation for a variety of lenders. Kathy has successfully dealt with a significant number of complex defended lender actions and has acted in a series of high profile Intellectual Property Litigation cases. She has extensive expertise in both personal injury and commercial litigation.

    Kathy is an Accredited Mediator and is a member of the Law Society’s Mediation Service.

    Edmund, educated at University of Ulster, specialises in Lender Services, Insolvency and Business Restructuring. He currently manages a top 5 UK Bank mortgage litigation contract and has extensive experience of asset and debt recovery.

    He conducts the day to day operations of a large mortgage litigation team and has carried this out for 20 years, ensuring that the firm adheres to stringent service level agreements. Edmund has developed a team within lender services to proactively address rehabilitation issues in order to maintain the position of the lender within a difficult property market. He has extensive experience in all areas of recoveries including asset recovery, shortfall recovery and bankruptcy and his clients include lenders and large corporations.

    Stemming from his experience in these areas he provides training and seminars on repossession procedures e.g. to Citizens Advice Bureau and debt advice agencies.

    Edmund has been instrumental in developing core ICT competencies of the firm.

    Nikki joined the firm in July 2011 as a paralegal and following her training has been working within the firm as a solicitor. During Nikki’s time within the office she has gained experience in various departments, including remortgaging, lender services and debt. She currently leads the Property Sales team, acting for a number of major lender clients. She is experienced in dealing with high volume conveyancing caseloads and working within strict Service Level Agreements.

    Nikki is a keen runner and took part in the Belfast City Relay Marathon along with other members of the firm. The team raised over £1,800.00 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

    Gerald studied at the University of Ulster where he obtained an undergraduate degree in Business with Marketing, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honours.  Gerald made a career change in 2014 when he travelled to England to complete a postgraduate law conversion course at the University of Law, Chester.

    Gerald joined the firm in August 2015 and has been proficient when dealing with large caseloads, becoming a key member of the Conveyancing Team. He has experience of working with large lender clients as well as individual purchasers.

    Mark Kelly studied at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown and graduated with an LL.B in Law and Government in 2003.

    After graduating, Mark worked for 10 years in the charity sector as a Local Area Director, later being promoted to Manager and Team Leader in 2016. In addition to this, Mark played a key role in in the finance department, while maintaining and developing the Charity’s website and IT infrastructure. Mark joined the re-mortgaging Department at Robert G Sinclair Solicitors in January 2017. Outside of work, Mark is a keen rugby player and enjoys spending time with his family.

    Mark also sits on the Board of Governors for a primary school and is a trustee for Abaana, a charity which works with disadvantaged children in Uganda.

    Matthew is Head of Litigation and has a vast range of expertise in litigation having obtained over 10 years’ experience in a large national practice based in the North of England. Before taking up his position with Robert G. Sinclair Matthew worked for a litigation firm in Belfast.

    During his time in England Matthew dealt with all aspects of litigation ranging from standard whiplash claims through to claims that settled in excess of £1 million. He has provided advice and training to various insurance companies and dealt with numerous complex insurance disputes. During his time in England Matthew managed a large team of Solicitors.

    As well as this Matthew has represented individuals that have been involved in a range of accidents and has a particular interest in the psychological injuries that are suffered and the treatment that is required. Matthew is a strong advocate for treatment such as CBT and EMDR as opposed to simply medication, and has and will continue to try and make the Northern Ireland Judiciary share this viewpoint.

    Matthew leads our Litigation Team servicing clients from large corporate institutions to local businesses and individuals, ensuring that their best interests are protected no matter the size of case.

    Matthew has a strong desire to get the best results for his clients and is keen to use alternative forms of dispute resolution to keep both costs and stress to a minimum.

    Matthew was the solicitor that dealt with one of the largest ever Clinical Negligence cases in Northern Irelands history, it was commented at the time that the proactive approach along with modern techniques that Matthew used meant that the settlement achieved was one of the largest ever in this jurisdiction. Matthew has dealt with all types of litigation from road traffic accidents to large clinical negligence cases and always puts the client’s needs first.

    Belfast Solicitor Mairead has over 20 years experience in litigation. She spent 19 years with a large commercial law firm in Belfast before taking up a role in a public inquiry and then joined the expanding litigation team at Robert G Sinclair.

    Mairead is recognised in the Legal 500 for her knowledge of personal injury and clinical negligence. She is described in the Legal 500 as ”very thorough, engaging, knowledgeable and astute”. She is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (“APIL”).

    Mairead has extensive experience in personal injury and she has acted for leading Insurers and retailers in defending slips, trip and falls arising out of employer and public liability claims. She is highly experienced in motor claims including car hire matters. She has given presentations to Insurers on fraudulent claims and to retailers and manufacturers on health and safety in the work place. She has also acted for local businesses in relation to breaches of the health and safety legislation where serious injury has occurred and attended PACE interviews. Mairead can offer clients a unique service of carrying out preliminary investigations and preparing reports in relation to liability and quantum. This has enabled Insurers to settle claims at an early stage, where it is appropriate to do so and Mairead is a keen negotiator and has experience in settling high court and county court claims, including complex scarring injury claims.

    For 19 years Mairead acted for a leading Livestock Insurer and is familiar with all liability issues associated with the ownership of animals, in particular, horses and dogs. Her experience in this area of insurance has developed from her experience in prosecuting individuals under the dogs order on behalf of two local councils. The prosecutions have ranged from no dog licences to dog attacks on persons and sheep and seizure of prohibited breeds of dogs. She has also provided advice notes for the local authorities regarding the dogs legislation. In addition, she has undertaken prosecution work regarding breaches of health and safety where fatalities have occurred, littering offences, breaches of the Sunday trading laws, breaches of the tobacco order and breaches of the bye-laws relating to consumption of intoxicating liquor in designated areas. She has experience in other criminal matters including defending motoring offences, assault charges and theft offences.

    Mairead is keen to develop her expertise in professional negligence claims and is currently acting for a bank against an expert associated with a property evaluation. She is particularly interested in medical negligence and has increased her expertise in this area over the last number of years. She has acted in high value cases where individuals experienced catastrophic life changing injuries requiring future surgery and nursing care. She has also acted for minors who were mis-diagnosed of a condition which had severe consequences not only physically and psychologically but it affected their education and career.

    Outside work, Mairead is a busy Mum of twins and enjoys a good walk in the Glens of Antrim when she has time to do so!

    Rosaleen McGinn LL.B

    Rosaleen graduated from The University of Ulster in 2011, with an LLB (Hons) degree in Law.

    After graduating, she worked as a Legal Costing Executive for two years, providing advice and assistance to the legal profession on technical cost issues relating to both County Court and High Court actions. Rosaleen gained experience and knowledge of case law and legislation in the area of costs and assisted solicitors by drafting formal written advices, estimates of costs, negotiated legal costs and provided representation at detailed assessment hearings before the Taxing Master.

    Rosaleen later joined a large Human Rights Law firm in Belfast and worked predominately within the litigation department for one year before commencing her Apprenticeship in September 2014. As a Legal Executive and Apprentice, Rosaleen specialised in actions against the state and other public bodies in relation to harassment, misfeasance within the public office, negligence, personal injury, human right violations and abuses of state power, playing an active role in several landmark cases. Rosaleen gained extensive experience in other areas such as road traffic accidents, medical negligence, employers liability and commercial contracts.

    Rosaleen joined R G Sinclair & Co in November 2016 and she is a Solicitor within the Debt and Insolvency Department working closely with our Director, Mr Edmund Sinclair. Rosaleen assists in all areas of recoveries to include, asset recovery, shortfall recovery and bankruptcy on behalf of creditors. She also assists borrowers on refinancing, restructuring, secured and unsecured lending, acquisition finance, loan portfolio sales and commercial finance.  Rosaleen manages a heavy case load for clients who are individuals, sole traders, lenders and large corporations. In addition to this, Rosaleen also assists within our Litigation Department in areas of professional negligence, commercial litigation, high value personal injury litigation and banking litigation.

    Outside of work Rosaleen has run charity events for Cancer Research and raised substantial sums for charity. Rosaleen has been actively involved in her local community in recent years as both chairperson and youth leader of CYC, with the aim of empowering individuals to develop and enjoy new challenges through volunteering and social action while making a positive contribution to the community.

    Grace obtained her Law Degree from Queen’s University Belfast and went on to undertake a Masters Degree in Clinical Legal Education at the University of Ulster.

    Grace joined the firm as a Paralegal in September 2014 and currently leads the firm’s busy Lender Services team. She has expertise in dealing with high volume mortgage litigation caseloads for a number of major banks and lending institutions and is experienced in working within Strict Service Level Agreements.

    Grace is also an appointed member of the firm’s Risk and Compliance Committee and has been involved in developing new Policies and Procedures to help ensure the firm’s compliance with the ever growing needs of our lender clients.

    Grace is currently completing her studies to qualify as a Solicitor at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, Queen’s University Belfast.

    Rebecca studied at Newcastle University where she graduated in Law and French with Honours in 2011. Rebecca also spent an Erasmus year studying French Law at Lyon University in 2010.

    Since joining the firm, Rebecca has worked within our Litigation Department assisting fee-earners in matters including professional negligence, personal injury, road traffic accidents, medical negligence, defence litigation and matrimonial cases.

    Megan began working at Robert G. Sinclair & Company in September 2016 having completed her law degree at Queen’s University Belfast. She joined the firm as a Legal Executive undertaking an extensive work load. In her time with the firm, Megan has progressed to the role of team leader of the re-mortgaging department where she works with both large lender clients and the public. Megan has become a key member of the team and demonstrates an ability to work well with a high volume of cases under pressure. Megan has now commenced her training as a solicitor, having enrolled with the Institute of Professional Legal Studies in Belfast.

    Edmund, educated at University of Ulster, specialises in Lender Services, Insolvency and Business Restructuring. He currently manages a top 5 UK Bank mortgage litigation contract and has extensive experience of asset and debt recovery.

    He conducts the day to day operations of a large mortgage litigation team and has carried this out for 20 years, ensuring that the firm adheres to stringent service level agreements. Edmund has developed a team within lender services to proactively address rehabilitation issues in order to maintain the position of the lender within a difficult property market. He has extensive experience in all areas of recoveries including asset recovery, shortfall recovery and bankruptcy and his clients include lenders and large corporations.

    Stemming from his experience in these areas he provides training and seminars on repossession procedures e.g. to Citizens Advice Bureau and debt advice agencies.

    Edmund has been instrumental in developing core ICT competencies of the firm.

    Grace obtained her Law Degree from Queen’s University Belfast and went on to undertake a Masters Degree in Clinical Legal Education at the University of Ulster.

    Grace joined the firm as a Paralegal in September 2014 and currently leads the firm’s busy Lender Services team. She has expertise in dealing with high volume mortgage litigation caseloads for a number of major banks and lending institutions and is experienced in working within Strict Service Level Agreements.

    Grace is also an appointed member of the firm’s Risk and Compliance Committee and has been involved in developing new Policies and Procedures to help ensure the firm’s compliance with the ever growing needs of our lender clients.

    Grace is currently completing her studies to qualify as a Solicitor at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, Queen’s University Belfast.

    Rosaleen graduated from The University of Ulster in 2011, with an LLB (Hons) degree in Law.

    After graduating, she worked as a Legal Costing Executive for two years, providing advice and assistance to the legal profession on technical cost issues relating to both County Court and High Court actions. Rosaleen gained experience and knowledge of case law and legislation in the area of costs and assisted solicitors by drafting formal written advices, estimates of costs, negotiated legal costs and provided representation at detailed assessment hearings before the Taxing Master.

    Rosaleen later joined a large Human Rights Law firm in Belfast and worked predominately within the litigation department for one year before commencing her Apprenticeship in September 2014. As a Legal Executive and Apprentice, Rosaleen specialised in actions against the state and other public bodies in relation to harassment, misfeasance within the public office, negligence, personal injury, human right violations and abuses of state power, playing an active role in several landmark cases. Rosaleen gained extensive experience in other areas such as road traffic accidents, medical negligence, employers liability and commercial contracts.

    Rosaleen joined R G Sinclair & Co in November 2016 and she is a Solicitor within the Debt and Insolvency Department working closely with our Director, Mr Edmund Sinclair. Rosaleen assists in all areas of recoveries to include, asset recovery, shortfall recovery and bankruptcy on behalf of creditors. She also assists borrowers on refinancing, restructuring, secured and unsecured lending, acquisition finance, loan portfolio sales and commercial finance.  Rosaleen manages a heavy case load for clients who are individuals, sole traders, lenders and large corporations. In addition to this, Rosaleen also assists within our Litigation Department in areas of professional negligence, commercial litigation, high value personal injury litigation and banking litigation.

    Outside of work Rosaleen has run charity events for Cancer Research and raised substantial sums for charity. Rosaleen has been actively involved in her local community in recent years as both chairperson and youth leader of CYC, with the aim of empowering individuals to develop and enjoy new challenges through volunteering and social action while making a positive contribution to the community.

    Jonathan Cree started his career in the ICT industry with a global corporate entity, where he spent over 10 years developing his skills while also spending his spare time working for charities supporting conflict refugees.
    For the last 15 years Jonathan has been working as an independent consultant in the ICT industry. He is experienced in delivering global systems in the public and private sectors. At Robert G Sinclair and Co, Jonathan will work to develop the ICT systems in place, ensuring that the company is always up to date with modern technology, with the aim of providing a more efficient practice.
    Jonathan continues to support local charity fund raising; while making time to support the endeavours of his family and enjoy his passion for Living History and mythology.
